As kids, we always have dreams to fly and fantasies to fulfill. We always take time to explore the visuals of our thoughts and find ways to accomplish them. We often tell our parents that we want to buy these and those or that we want to go places. As children, we like new places to visit as ways to escape from the routine. We don’t know yet if this idea is valid. Maybe, other children don’t have the same wishes and yearnings as we do. Most likely, we differ in our dreams and fantasies because we come from different backgrounds and generations. However, most of us want to explore places somewhere far and strikingly awesome. Because of this idea, we pressure that many of us want to go to White Beach in Boracay.
White Beach in Boracay, Philippines enthralls us with exciting and memorable landscapes. It even gives us more fun-filled adventures to appreciate and then to experience as well. We know that Boracay embodies the country’s landmark as the tourist capital; however, we don’t know how this tourist attraction draws an influx of holidaymakers and travelers over the last years. The site gives a stunning view that ensures us to prepare our cameras to bring something magical with the three-hundred and sixty-degree view and to redefine a truly postcard-perfect catch out in the sun. White Beach gives us all the wonder of the planet that it charms us with its gorgeous sunsets. And yet, we can see the crystal-clear calm waters rounding up its unparalleled splendor during day time as we take our feet to walk into the white sand filled with the natural wonders. As we stride our curious feet on the white sand, we feel the aura of those travelers before us and claim that White Beach appears to be one of our most favorite destinations. It is no wonder that White Beach, according to many, becomes the playground for holidaymakers and travelers because it offers us quiet breathing space and gives us the unsurpassed soothing vibes. Well, we feel at home since we stay under the towering coconut trees in a row with crystal-clear calm waters rounding up its unparalleled splendor. We cannot ask for more as we get the satisfaction to absorb the aura of wonder to stroll around the area. Indeed, we quench our childhood thirsts to visit Boracay as a dream-come-true effect.
Indeed, White Beach excites us with surprises and wonders. It becomes a tourist spot of historical importance. It offers us more than the grains of glittering and mesmerizing white beach sands to fulfill our childhood dreams and fantasies. It lets us explore the scenery and the can’t-miss topography that travelers fail to wait and experience. As we take our time quenching our hunger to witness the place, we cannot deny the fact that this magnificent White Beach charms with splendor. If we have time to travel, we can testify the miracle of White Beach and hold these real-like imaginations in a once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
The status quo that people face has altered our ways of life. It has controlled us to express our thoughts, made all of us stay at home, and turned our lives into a boring state. Of course, we have paid attention to the very subtle details of the given policies and rules from the local and national governments. However, we have been close enough to surrender. We have become tired of waiting to end this crisis. We have lost everything as we have not fully adapted to the so-called new normal. We have become crazy in a way that we do not know what to do. We just buy pots and plant plants. Others tend to resort to playing mobile legends; whereas, some turn into Netflix. And yet, we have known that some of our friends had to find ways to survive. We drive tricycles like Eric Fructuoso, sell Siomai like Ate Gay, and retail fruit gummies like me. And then, we have become tired of doing this over and over again that we have lost our chances to unwind. Since this pandemic comes near its end, I hope so, we should consider finding ways to unwind. Perhaps, we can go camping beside the hills, swimming in the pool, trekking into the hilly forest. If we do some of these adventure activities, perhaps, we can eliminate the trails of stress and the remnants of frustration that the present condition showers on us. How about going to Katubhan and Mat-I Falls?
Location of Katubhan falls and Mat-i falls
Katubhan falls and Mat-i falls, which are the twin falls, are located at Barangay Mat-i, Claveria, Misamis Oriental. From Claveria, we spend around 30-45 minutes of trekking on a steep trail in the area within the stunning landscape. Trekkers and vacationers can experience a great adventure and an awesome experience. These twin waterfalls become the gorgeous possessions of Claveria municipality. Explorers and holidaymakers describe this twin falls as a congruently challenging in terms of both tracks with their imposing panoramic views given by nature.
How Do We Get There
We only take one hour and thirty minutes to go to Claveria if we are from Cagayan de Oro City. Here is what we do.
We need to communicate with the Claveria Tourism Office first.
Next, we have to hire our local guides. As recommended by Sir Jhong, we can choose either Ar-Ar Abrogar with his mobile phone dial 09755496786 or Kokong Bear Andam with his mobile phone dial 09059610895. We only pay ₱00 for the tour guide fee for 10 trekkers.
From Agora Terminal, Cagayan de Oro, we take an air-conditioned van bound to Claveria for only ₱00. We expect 1 hour and 30 minutes to arrive at the destination.
Then, we meet our local guides in Claveria. Once we do, we take bao-bao, dulog, tuktok, tri-cab, or whatever you call it, going to Barangay Mat-i. Each trekker will pay ₱00 per person. We spend 30 minutes in Mat-i Town.
Moreover, we have to be ready and prepare for our knees because we have to hike downhill so steep that we need to take a pause. This descending trek to the falls seems perfect for those adventurous persons.
As well, we cross the river as we head toward the falls. As we cross and trek the river, we make sure we have waterproof bags to keep our belongings dry since we expect the river to be knee-deep level.
Since we food corner shops are unavailable, we have to bring our food and water.
As responsible trekkers and citizens, we bring our trash bags to keep those food wrappers and others as we maintain the area to be clean. We do not need to leave our trash in the site to preserve sanitation around the waterfalls and anywhere in the vicinity.
So, if we are ready, we set the timetable and make things possible. We would like to thank the following people: AboutCagayandeOro.Com, Sir Jhong, and the Pack of Wolves, as well as the Claveria Tourism Office and Tour Guides.
Unwinding ourselves from everyday pandemonium helps us resolve some issues of our wellbeing. When we say health, we consider emotional, mental, and physical issues. We only want to relax just a little bit to end our common and everyday fiasco at home, in school, at work, and in the community. Our friends are correct when they invite us to wind down just a little bit and take their time to be happy. However, we often refuse to take our time because we feel like being edgy and overwrought due to the current predicament in the world. On the contrary, we all have the options to make. We can do all things within our grasp. We are in control. We just don’t mind all forms and shapes of stress that exist around us. We have to take a break. In other words, we have to pause for a moment from what we are doing. We, now, imagine how we can reduce the stressful situations that we are getting into the day-to-day mayhem. When our friends invite us to go somewhere else, somewhere exciting, we need to grab such opportunities and pack our bags. We have to unwind. When our friends ask us to go with them to Sipaka Heights, that’s the time when we say we better get going.
Sipaka Heights is in Talisayan, Misamis Oriental. It has been the tourist destination in the area where we surely feel the atmosphere and the tempting paradise. It has an amusing turquoise-blue beach seen from the top of the mountain. It has gorgeous spots to allow us to gesture for picturesque and scenic snapshots. It offers us good vibes if we allow ourselves to feel the wonder of nature. Well, we may ask, “Have you been to Sipaka Heights?” If not, then we will take you to Sipaka Heights. For now, we only need to imagine the scenery as we walk together through the gorgeous backdrop and the magnificence of Talisayan town. So, we set our plans. We have to spend our time with family members and friends. We have to remember that we don’t exist here in the world to work hard, pay bills, and die. We are passengers who always travel and make the most of our lives. Look around us. What is happening? Is it worth waiting for miracles that everything gets normal and government officials give us a good life? No, it’s not. We have had enough for all these gibberish political dramas and lies. So, we firmly take our chances to enjoy ourselves from the miracles of nature. We have to live and re-live every moment that we have. We don’t exactly know when we stop breathing. At least, we enjoy traveling around the places where we love most. Indeed, we need to go to Sipaka Heights.
What’s more, Sipaka Heights has all that we need. We can absolutely feel the blowy atmosphere plus the wind-swept environment. We can, also, smell the great scent of the ocean wind. We can, furthermore, feel the warm embrace of the sun while spending everything all night long at Sipaka Heights. Known as the diving spot in Talisayan, Sipaka Heights puts a landmark of the site. Lovely as it is, we can enjoy the view of Camiguin since Sipaka Heights allows us to glance the Camiguin Island. Also, we can have a remarkable experience if we plan ahead of time. In doing so, we have to contact the local tourism office in Talisayan. We can ask if we can hire a local tour guide to help us reach the destination safely.
Oh, before we forget, Sipaka Heights is a hill. This mountain extends to the sea. As seen on the photos provided by Explore Misamis Oriental PH, we will feel awed and get surprised by the outstanding view of the shorelines and the foothills nearby. Did we mention that we are from Cagayan de Oro? Yes, we did. From Cagayan de Oro, we take two (2) hours to travel to the widely held holidaymaker or traveler destination in the province. We don’t need to worry about the stress of going there. The soothing scenery rewards us to witness the beauty of nature, allows us to go for a boat tour, and then swim in the astounding white beaches around the area.
Bulyok Falls as Naawan’s amazing pride to visit exceeds our expectations. Naawan, Misamis Oriental gives us an astonishing fall nearby. We get to know Bulyok Falls in Naawan, Misamis Oriental as it gives us crystal clear water to quench ourselves. We also get to gratify ourselves because of the cool and refreshing falls that Naawan offers. With its 5 to 7 feet depth, Bulyok Falls is popular among local travelers like us. Of course, we can spend our holidays and weekends diving into the revitalizing waters of Bulyok Falls once in a while. Some local tourists claim that Bulyok Falls in Naawan, Misamis Oriental gives us an exciting adventure and that it makes us feel at home with nature. If we just try to feel the presence of nature, we can see how nature provides us with beauty and wonder. This nature adds beauty to our province, our country, and our planet in general. We just need to spend our time living our lives to the fullest. We just don’t live for work, pay our bills, and die. We exist here on Earth to be happy. So, we stop gossiping, hurting, lying, and rumor-mongering, as well as assassinating their characters behind their backs. We have to remember that we are passengers here on Earth. We can’t stay forever. Since we have a limited life span here on Earth, we have to spend our remaining days and nights or months and years fulfilling our longing for adventure and traveling around places and the world in general.
We’ve been telling our readers from our previous narratives that traveling has always been fun. Yes, it has been fun. We don’t have to be bitter or even negative looking at things around us. We just have to be appreciative. And if we go on an excursion, we always feel gratified to accomplish our simple, yet meaningful adventures. We just set our plans, prepare for a few dollars or pesos, and pack our things to get ready for adventure. If we do this, we understand how important it is to commune with nature and embrace the beauty of nature, as well as travel. If we go to Bulyok Falls in Naawan, Misamis Oriental, we surely spend two hours of the trip, plus or minus, if we are from Cagayan de Oro. We can then enjoy the beauty of trekking if we want to do it. We just need to bring our food, so we can save money.
How Much Will We Spend
₱30.00 for the Entrance Fee
₱50.00 – ₱800.00 for various cottage rental rates
₱0.00 for corkage
How Much Do We Travel
If we are from Cagayan de Oro, we spend two (2) hours for a ride. Then, we stop when we see 7-Eleven Convenience Store. We head straight and spend another 30 minutes going to the entrance of Bulyok Falls. From 7-Eleven to the highway, we can say that the ride requires time.
Before We Forget
Bulyok Falls is for everyone. In our mother tongue, we call it “pang-masa siya ug okay ra kaayo mga Beeshy.” Despite the distance, we can get the advantage of the entrance fee. From Bulyok, we can have Mahangub Falls if we want more moments of adventure. We can tell everyone this. The water is so cool and refreshing. As adventurous people, we expect nothing but excitement and fun.
P.S. We would like to thank Jeff Aquino from Katawa CDO Doodzkie for the information and Kimyy Villarubia for the photos.
Davao City, which is quite remote from Misamis Oriental, offers some spectacular sites for holidaymakers and travelers like our visit. One of these sites where we love to sojourn is Eleaga Camping Resort. Perhaps, this resort site fascinates us because of some activities to make merry. As well, this nature-like and can’t-miss resort is at Camp Eleaga, Lake Macaduhong, Malabog, Davao City. We can have day tours or overnight stays if we want. Eleaga Camping Resort has tree-houses and close cottages if we want privacy. If we bring food and beverages, the resort does not charge any corkage fees. Of course, that makes sense at all.
Eleaga Camping Resort provides some amenities fishing areas, life jackets for rafting, affordable food services, and videoke machines for sing-a-long moments. It charms its guests and visitors various activities, such as fishing carps and other freshwater fish, diving into the pool, and bamboo rafting. While doing these activities, our loved ones and friends can prepare food there and cook some tribal-style gastronomies or homegrown cuisines.
Well, we’re talking about the rates.
Day Tour Charge – ₱30.00
Use of the Treehouses – ₱500.00 For Overnight
Use of the Close Cottages ₱300.00 for Day Tour
How about amenities?
Eleaga Camping Resort offers videoke services. Since there is no curfew of videoke, we need to minimize the sounds from 9 PM onwards. If some tourists come and spend overnight, they have to stop singing until 9 PM and pay respect to others. If many choose to stay overnight, we have to end the videoke sessions at 9 PM to let others take rest.
As well, we can go fishing if want to grill some fish. We just need to bring with us our fishing gear if we wish to catch some fish. Once we get some fish, we kilo it. We have to pay ₱100.00 a kilo for freshwater fish. If we go rafting, we have to use a life jacket worth ₱100.00 an hour.
Additionally, Eleaga Camping Resort provides us with a reasonably priced and sumptuous food on the table. However, if we are not in the mood to cook, we ask the resort to cook for us. We just need to pay for the cooking service fees.
Moreover, we can buy something to take home. Perhaps, we can select several memento items to bring at home. If we want pure wild honey, the key chains, and many others, we can have any of them.
How do we get there?
If we reach Davao City, we take an L3 van or any Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) or Jeepney to Calinan. Then, we need to ask the driver to drop us off at Gaisano Grand Mall.
From Gaisano Grand Mall, we need to look for a single motorcycle good for 2-3 persons to save money. We have to tell the motorcycle drivers that we need to go to the place Camp Eleaga so we can witness the grandeur of Malabog Lake. Well, we just have to ask the driver regarding the fare for a one-way drive. The last time when we checked the one-way ride was ₱300.00 for one motorcycle. If we include the back fare, we have to pay another ₱300.00. Of course, this situation is an adventure, we do expect of the bumpy ride due to the rock-strewn road. However, it will be even nicer for us if we ride on a four-wheel-drive vehicle like SUV or any vehicles to get there.
What’s more, some local tourists highly commend Eleaga Camping Resort for Team Buildings, Family Occasions, and other activities. For us, we consider it just fine. The flowing water from the lake is clean. The management of the resort guarantees that the pool is clean. In other words, the management cleans the pool every day. Oh, before we forget, we highly appreciate the friendly and accommodating customer services, too. If we ask the signal there, Globe gives us the Fourth-Generation (4G) Signal. We can contact the management through this mobile phone dial at 09128889387. Oh, did you ask if the place is safe? Well, what we know is that Police Officers do station around 300 meters to secure the area. Therefore, we are safe.
Months ago, my friends invited me to go to Claveria. I asked them why I had to go to Claveria where I could spend my days and nights at home. The physical distancing regulations and the stay-at-home policies were underway, and these rules compelled me to remain immobile. Of course, I was afraid that police officers would catch me in the open when my only reason for going out was to have some fun. I knew police officers would be mad at me knowing that I would only find places to enjoy while the rest were struggling and suffering from the crisis. Besides, fines, once being caught, were high. As a result, I had to stay at home and waited for the COVID-19 pandemic to subside.
Conversely, the pandemic has been plaguing the country and the world as well. It has been pushing me to extend my patience. It made me feel even sicker and more bored than usual. Some of my friends back home died because of depression, mental torture, and stress. Without anything on a table due to no food, no job, and no medicine and without any support from the government, some of my friends perished. They died in vain. Even if the national government and the local government helped the people, there were a few officials who failed to show compassion and humanity. They supported their rich friends, or they only helped those people whom they knew. Anyway, I should move on to the present situation. I had to change my perspective in life. I could not turn back times, and we have been in this together. So, I took my chances to go outside and to enjoy just a little bit. I put my face mask on, wore my eyeglasses, and packed all my traveling apparels. Then, I contacted other friends to fetch me. Here they came. With their traveling garments on, we rode in a rented van going to Claveria to try to eliminate the stress and unwind just a little bit.
Traveling has been fun. It seemed that my friends and I just traveled back in time. While traveling, I let go of my musings that evoked my childhood experiences. However, I managed to return to my realities when other friends told me that we were in Claveria then. Yes, we were in Claveria. With more than a few minutes of traveling down the road to Claveria’s main site, we gladly reached it. Then, we head to Janopolan Nature Spring and Pool to Jaco’s Stopover, Claveria View Deck, and then awesome place Don Narciso Café. I felt impressed and overwhelmed seeing the panoramic view. Claveria’s mountainous site and its cold and freezing atmosphere permitted us to get off the van. So, we stopped right there, ordered some delicious and nutritious food, and got amazed by the splendor of the overlooking and mountainous area.
Additionally, Don Narciso Café has been awe-inspiring. Its food service, food taste, and view did, however, spell magic in me. I just loved the food and the vista that other tourists adored. In the back of mind, I realized that the province of Misamis Oriental constantly charmed those local and foreign travelers with gripping tourist attractions. This province gave vacationers some stunning sites that showcased eye-catching destinations for travel. Just like other provinces and regions, local businesses and local governments worked hard to promote their provinces. This time, the management of Don Narciso Café thrived in promoting Claveria and Misamis Oriental as well. As a result, numerous motorists and holidaymakers, who took Route 955, could stopover at Don Narciso Café for breakfast meals and snacks. As well, Don Narciso Cafe served some pasta, loaves of sandwiches, cups of coffee, and smoothies, as well as other cold drinks.
At this point, going outside to breathe and inhale fresh air helped us survive from boredom and depression. It even made us feel alive again. The COVID-19 pandemic has made us vulnerable to emotional and psychological illness because we just imprisoned ourselves in the four corners of our rooms. Psychologically, the physical distancing guidelines and the stay-at-home policies have made me ill. Some of my friends have just died because of depression, heart and panic attacks, and stroke. For me, I had to save myself. I had to go outside to breathe fresh air in the mountains. Since Don Narciso Café is open, I have to remove my boredom and stress. For all of us, if we considered that going outside would be beneficial, we could go to Don Narciso Café at Route 955, Lanise, Claveria, Misamis Oriental.
Furthermore, we could cherry-pick the best food they served:
Finally, we can go to View Deck and then head toward Don Narciso Café for more than two-and-a-half-kilometer ride. It meant that we could have twice excitement and fun. If we wished to contact the owner, we could dial their mobile phone dial at 0917 708 5025 for possible booking and reservation, perhaps. Regardless of where we were, we could go directly to Claveria by using Google Maps, simple as it would be.
One of the greatest and most impressive tourist destinations in Misamis Oriental is Tiklas Falls. Its form, shape, and structure appear to be the gate of Atlantis hidden in the middle of nowhere. With its spectacular scenery and view, local and foreign tourists cannot resist taking their time and diving into the stunning tourist destinations in the region. As well, the splish-splashing cascade, the cerulean-blue swimming pool, the lush green scenery, and the exuberant tourist attraction hook and captivate the hearts of holidaymakers to visit the place. As well, the well-crafted and well-designed cerulean-blue swimming pool in the middle of the area looks like the gate of Atlantis or the portal of the lost city somewhere in the Bermuda Triangle and enthralls holidaymakers owing to its cool and refreshing waters. Picture-perfect as it is, Tiklas Falls appears to be the Atlantis of Gingoog City. Located in the Lawit Town, Gingoog City, this spectacular tourist destination has been the prevailing tourist spot in Misamis Oriental. At present, the city government of Gingoog has developed Tiklas Falls as an Eco-Tourism Park. It means that Tiklas Falls has a lot of things to offer.
Local and foreign tourists from Cagayan de Oro and Butuan City can easily go to Gingoog City. From Cagayan de Oro, tourists will take 122 kilometers east to Gingoog City. From Butuan City, tourists take 74 kilometers to Gingoog City. Essentially, Tiklas Falls mesmerizes all holidaymakers with the captivating and catching cascade of dashing waters. It lets vacationers have their get-together gimmicks and picnics while exploiting the falls as the backdrop. Before arriving at the falls, holidaymakers take 15 minutes more or less on a murky and rock-strewn trail to Tiklas Falls. Just like any other tourist charms, the neighboring sites of Tiklas Falls have various resorts. The city government of Gingoog develops the area as part of the eco-tourism program so that local and foreign tourists can enjoy swimming in a pool. As expected, tourists can see some cottages obtainable for rentals, which cost around ₱200.00. The reasonably priced cottages, food and beverages, and other menus are remaining for the visitors. As well, travelers and visitors will pay ₱20 (adult) and P10 (children 12 years below) for their entrance fees. With these fees, vacationers can only enjoy the cool and refreshing waters. They can do a lot of excitement and fun. They can, also, take pictures as they stand on the concrete bridge. The picturesque view of the waterfalls permits holidaymakers and travelers to capture the picture-perfect photographs.
Additionally, local and foreign tourists knew that the city government of Gingoog and the management of Tiklas Falls did not allow littering in the area. In this case, they could preserve cleanliness, order, and peace of the place. However, local and foreign visitors also knew that Tiklas Falls’ management did not have accommodations within the area. They have to return to the metropolitan if they have a week-long experience in the place.

Is this the Tinago Falls in Iligan City, Lanao del Norte in Mindanao? Perhaps, local and foreign tourists must differentiate the two falls in different regions. It is because vacationers can go to two Tinago Falls in the Visayas and Mindanao regions. Moreover, this Tinago Falls is in the town of Caibiran in the province of Biliran. In other words, this beautiful scenery with its display of beauty and power with a height of around 90 feet is not the Tinago Falls in the Mindanao region. This is the Tinago Falls in Visayas, particularly in Caibiran, Biliran.
This famous destination among tourists called Tinago Falls surely offers a stunning display of water and rock being walled with the immense woodlands and green flora. Local and foreign holidaymakers can surely find this place a timeless paradise that tends to parade the expected grandeur of the province.
