Maria Cristina Falls: Embracing nature at its best

Maria Cristina Falls has been one of the most famed waterfalls in the Philippines. Its natural landmark makes the local government of Iligan City and its adjacent towns feel very proud. Its cascading water that comes from the Agus River harnesses power as one of the primary sources of electricity in the region. Local tourists and travelers, certainly, call it the “twin falls” because of its enormous rock dividing the flow of the waters. The splendid beauty of the falls even captivates the hearts of the tourists and makes this place a must-see allure in the Mindanao region, particularly in Iligan City and Linamon. Of course, Maria Cristina Falls receives care from the local government. The National Power Corporation, for instance, operates in it that gives people electric powers to all residential households, commercial buildings, and industries. As well, Maria Cristina’s Nature’s Park positions itself between the boundaries of barangays, such as Maria Cristina, Buru-un, and Dicutalan in which holidaymakers and local tourists can spot it directly. Unlike other falls, tourists from the main road can reach the place as they only spend 9.3 kilometers. As tourists do not need trekking to see its beauty due to the visibility of Maria Cristina Falls and Nature’s Park on the road, they can simply spell amazement and wonder of Iligan City.

A Glimpse of the Beautiful Nature of Maria Cristina Falls, Iligan City

Changing Business Conditions

The COVID-19 pandemic and the Red Alert statuses may, somehow, alter the course of actions and business transactions of Maria Cristina Falls. The local and national governments implement strict guidelines and rules on travel. Perhaps, local tourists and holidaymakers can check the tourism office of Iligan City or Linamon and check further details before going there for a swim. They need to check and prepare in advance so that everything will be set when the tourism office of Iligan City gives a go signal for tourists.

Reasons Why Tourists Visit Maria Cristina Falls

A Must-Visit Venue and Highlight of Maria Cristina Falls in Iligan City

The Nature’s Park

Conversely, the Nature’s Park appeared to be under the red alert status in 2018 due to minor issues. As a result, the management of Nature’s Park continued to improve the hanging bridge, the botanical garden, and the mini zoological park to remain off-limits for months. Tourists could even confirm that the usual adventure activities like the tree-top canopy and the zip-lines remained unavailable at that time in 2018. Some said that they were unable to come closer to the falls. According to Tupang Gala, the management placed the Nature’s Park under Red Alert Status because of the awful occasions, such as the bombing in Davao and the war in Marawi. Even if the war was over, the local government and the management of Nature’s Park and Maria Cristina imposed stern measures for the sake of security purposes. However, the place allows tourists to come on Saturdays and Sundays.

At least, for now, we can say, “Welcome to Maria Cristina Falls.”

Besigan Falls: A cascade of water to plunge

Finding the best place to dive, plunge, and swim seems exciting in Besigan Falls. We may question why it is exciting; however, we can only confirm it because of its convenience and location. Well, Besigan Falls is just a fifteen-minute hike or walk from Besigan Elementary School. Also, local trekkers know where Besigan is. It is a barangay in the city of Cagayan de Oro with more than 1,670 inhabitants according to the 2015 Census. In other words, this unexplored and important place represents 0.25% of the total population of Cagayan de Oro. Records from the Local Government Units (LGU) provide a surprising piece of information that the population of Besigan grows from 377 in 1990 to 1,673 in 2015 as mentioned on Philatlas.Com. For 25 years, Besigan grows and inhabits 1,296 people based on the 2015 Census. Wikipedia, an online dictionary and source of information, gives details of Besigan, which positions itself at approximately 8.2647, 124.5557 in the abundant island of Mindanao. Vacationers know that the elevation at these coordinates will be at the estimates of 390.4 meters above sea level.

A Curve Ahead on Besigan Road by Datu Cordoba

As well, the adjacent barangays of Besigan share a common border with San Isidro, Talakag, Bukidnon; Rogongon, Iligan; Barangay 3 (Poblacion), Talakag, Bukidnon; Barangay 1 (Poblacion), Talakag, Bukidnon; Barangay 5 (Poblacion), Talakag, Bukidnon; Tignapoloan, Cagayan de Oro; and Dansolihon, Cagayan de Oro according to Philatlas.Com. This place gives new hope to holidaymakers who work hard to promote local tourism and to improve the area. Mr. Datu Cordoba, a cacao farmer from Cagayan de Oro and an acquaintance on Facebook, introduces the magical and wonderful area to the local tourists. The green grass along the roads and the cold atmosphere in the area give us a simple, yet happy adventure to see the cascading waters of Besigan Falls.

Walking down on the Misty Road of Besigan by Datu Cordoba

Oh, how do we get there? Some people are asking where to go to this awesome place to dive. They cannot just resist going to the calm, cool, and refreshing waterfalls hidden somewhere in the borders. The misty road going to the area evokes memories of the silence of life and love. The misty road appears looks surreal. Such a setting reminds us to take our childhood dreams and wishes back in time. Since the place is new, we can go directly to Besigan Elementary School and find someone who can help us tour around. We know we like this. Well, this place seems inviting.

Jasaan Beach: A tempting seaboard to swim

Spending our time with family members and friends seems fun. It appears even more appealing if we spend our memories with them on a classy, exquisite, impressive, and spectacular beach. As expected, we, of course, have to pay for the necessary charges for using the venues. Depending on the type of beach resorts whether sophisticated or simple, we have to spend our money on fun and excitement. However, we have so many things to learn about gimmicks and hangouts. We have to distinguish that we can relish things without spending much money. We can go to the beach for free. Does it sound strange?

A Happy and Remarkable Memory in Jasaan Beach

Jasaan Beach in Jasaan Misamis Oriental gives us an exciting adventure without smashing our wallet or breaking our bank. If we are from Cagayan de Oro, we can just take a public utility vehicle (PUV) via Jasaan Liner at Agora Market where jeepney terminals for Jasaan Liners wait for passengers. Perhaps, we can drive our cars to Jasaan. We do not have to worry about where Jasaan Beach is. We can see it as we drive along the highway. The beach, to be sure, does not have a name. It is just called Jasaan Beach since the beach is in Jasaan. We can see it when we reach Jasaan. Besides, people there are friendly. Now, when we find a parking spot for our car, we can settle ourselves in, go to the beach waters, and dive to cool down for ourselves. After diving, we can pack our things up, get ready, and go home just as simple as that.

A Walk to Remember the Beautiful and Sweet Memories of the Past

As well, the best thing to go to Jasaan Beach is to go there with family members and friends. Sometimes, we will take our loved ones and crushes there while enjoying the talking. Young adults who are in love may usually go there as their space to enjoy walking in nature. You only need to spread your carpet on the sand, lay down all your food stuff, and talk about anything under the sun. Since the place does not have cottages, we can only use the beach at our own risk. Sometimes, our friendly dogs nearby may snatch and steal our food products while we are busy swimming in the cool beach waters.

Sebu’s Haven: A newly found nirvana to love

Highland biking, mountaineering, or trekking to the bucolic site in the Philippines seems a sensible decision to make. With all the pressure and strain we face every day, we have so much to do to take care of ourselves. Certain groups of biking aficionados, for instance, have recently taken the challenge to go mountain biking or even highland walking to defy the odds of the COVID-19 pandemic. Many of them take a fresh adventure to some places they keep on visiting. Of course, we can confirm that the Philippines has a lot to offer. In Mindanao, for example, we can cherry-pick various stunning spots that accommodate us all to experience some promising adventures and once-in-a-life-time opportunities. In Misamis Oriental, Mindanao, Philippines, we do have numerous sites that give us some exciting group-hangout escapades. Aside from the different locations for us to get our bikes, biking paraphernalia, and trekking shoes ready, we need to save our energy to the newly-found nirvana so that we can have our strong limbs to commence on a journey of a lifetime.

An Excitement We Can Never Forget at Sebu’s Haven in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental

One of the best spots to take our adventures today is Sebu’s Haven. Well, the name sounds bizarre, but yes, it is Sebu’s Haven. Local tourists, holidaymakers, and weekend trekkers know that Sebu’s Haven is in Rosario, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental. We can get to the Santa Ana Road and then make a demanding mountainous trip to the fresh, lofty, and soaring spot of Sebu’s Haven. Along the way, we may encounter a bumpy ride due to rough roads nearby after the edge of the concrete pavement. Toward the uphill and downhill sections of the road, we experience something new and somewhat magical – magic of an amazing adventure that we often think we have to do it over and over again. While trekking toward the Sebu’s Haven landscape, we can also experience the dreamlike scenery in a movie of the area’s bracing and invigorating view, the considerable fog and mist, and the refreshing breeze of the seasons. This experience is what we want, right? Well, we are not talking about getting lost in life. We are just talking about unwinding ourselves from the different forms of stress at home, at work, and in the community. As well, we just need to forget about the daily hullabaloos and the prison-like stay-at-home and physical distancing policies. We are not complaining about such circumstances, but we have to limber up and get into the swing of our stress, as well as get revitalized just a little bit.

Get Caught in the Hand of Something Magical at Sebu’s Haven in Tagoloan

Additionally, the next time we set our adventures, we just prioritize Sebu’s Haven. We do not mind the hubbub and trouble of going there – the rough roads and the bumpy rides; we just have to let things happen. Anyway, it is our adventure, not theirs. Therefore, we set our plans if we want, pack our things up, wear our gear on, and drive and trek to Sebu’s Haven. Everyone, including our special friend Riza Bade and her friends, has been there. We even ask her to use her photos with friends since her friends have a good grasp of the camera. Like the joy that Riza Bade and her friends attain, we, too, can experience the joy and miracle of nature. When we get there, we bet that we very much like the topography of the site.

Entrance Fee Rate

Oh, did we miss something? Yes, we did. We have to pay for the entrance fee (per head) for only ₱20.00. It does not have any cottage for now; however, the management has been working for it to be made available for overnight sojourns and camping activities. The best part of this adventure is that we get to know ourselves and that we spend our time with friends and loved ones.

Heading to the Location

We have to know that the exact address of Sebu’s Haven is at Brgy. Rosario, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental, Mindanao. From the junction of Tagoloan National Highway to Santa Cruz Road, we only take more or less 11.5 kilometers to reach the destination. If we go there by car from Cagayan de Oro, we take the Tagoloan National Highway-Santa Ana-Malitbog roads. In the distance, we turn left at the junction of Barangay Rosario. Well, we can take the route with Waze or Google Maps to set our destination to Sebu’s Haven. If we go there by public utility vehicle (PUV) from Cagayan de Oro, we just take a PUV going to Santa Ana-Tagoloan Liner. Please check the jeepney’s signboard. Then, get off the PUV and from Rosario Barangay Road, climb or go straight to an uphill rough road that leads to the site. Probably, if we want to take the motorcycles locally known as “habal-habal” from Sta. Cruz Junction, it will be better as that drive directly leads to the site.

A Few Reminders

We make sure that our adventures are safe and sound. As we take our camping and traveling route, we must be careful with the steep road ahead. We are advised to use motorcycles or mountain trekking vehicles like the 4×4 car due to the road conditions. As suggested, we just need to visit the place in the course of sunny days. We know that the road will get muddy and slimy when rainy days come. We just need to travel safely during the sunny season. When we decide to get there, we need to travel during daylight since the place gets pretty dark during night time. Additionally, we extend our patience as we always have to give our way  toward the area since a few travelers, also, take their trips there. Moreover, we just need to buy our own food and drinks since we cannot find any corner shops, food shops, or restaurants available in the area. Oh, before we forget, we must leave our vehicles down the road, particularly at the end of the concrete pavement. Remember the rough and steep roads? In this case, we just have to trudge upfront to the area.

Fortune Island – Batangas

A Greek-like Fortune Island is a resort island of Batangas province in the Philippines. Wikipedia says that the 27-hectare island lies about 14 kilometers off the coast of Nasugbu in Batangas.

Local and foreign travelers around the world can confirm the beauty of Fortune Island. They can witness that the whole island appears to be a replica of Greek’s famous Parthenon of the ancient Greece. If they try to look at it closely, they can see the Greek relics and ruins plus the Grecian pillars and statues that tower the sea. The overlooking Grecian pillars above the sea, for instance, will remind them of the magnificent splendor of Greek power and might. Down below is the 100-foot cliff at the edge. If they try to dive into the water, they have to go to the blue holes down below. The management of Fortune Island does not allow divers to take a plunge from that cliff to the ocean. Divers have to go down and enjoy the cold refreshing beach waters. As they go down, they can see that the island has a ridge with two holes with five (5) feet in diameter. If they choose to enter into the holes, they can witness the grandeur of the cave. Also, they can go somersaulting into the blue waters and do picture-taking in its Greek-like structures. Perhaps, they can just stopover at the MV San Diego Warship Museum after performing some beach activities. Because this place represents Greek’s replica, this spot becomes first in the rank.

Banaue Rice Terraces – Ifugao, Mountain Province

A Lavish Green Rice Field at Banaue Rice Terraces in Mountain Province

The Banaue Rice Terraces is not the usual destination for you to swim and dive or even hike along the mountain top and then relax at the swimming pools. The reason why we choose this one because it is the Filipino pride. The UNESCO World Heritage Group considers this site an undamaged and raw natural charm. The Ifugao natives who live there are warm and hospitable. They welcome day-trippers and vacationers and even serve them with great food in a tribal cuisine. They offer you genuine Ifugao meals, made of and prepared from the organic rice from the terraces. Well, they also serve local Filipino food. Finally, we choose this site as an adventure location since people can look for something exciting and exotic experiences. This is second on the list since it gives tourists a refreshing mountainous trip.

Boracay Beach – Boracay

An Enchanting Cerulean Blue Combined with the Turquoise Beach Water in Boracay

On the other hand, some islands remain untouched. Other islands in the country are ready for discovery. Of course, we can make more exciting excitement and fun if we want to discover more beach resorts. We can, also, find bounteous prospects for boating, snorkeling, and other water activities. Local and foreign tourists mushroom the area that makes Boracay the most popular destination in the country. The local government units and the management of Boracay work well to improve the services and to provide viable customer services among guests and tourists. Boracay is third on the list because it seems exciting after the local government units and the management of Boracay make some improvements in the area.

Palawan Islands – Palawan

A Mesmerizing Turquoise Blue Water for Beach Activities like Diving in Palawan

Well, local and foreign tourists alike know what and where Palawan is. They know that Palawan as the biggest island in the Palawan Province, particularly in the western Philippines, houses various tourist spots, such as Port Barton in El Nido; Barracuda Lake, Malcapuya Island, and Kayangan Island in Coron; Subterranean River and Sabang Beach in Puerto Princesa; and more. Well, the capital of Palawan is Puerto Princesa. Additionally, Puerto Princesa holds Subterranean River National Park, Honda Bay, and Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park. Local and foreign vacationers spend their weekends enjoying the area with its exciting beach activities. Palawan is in fourth place despite its wonder. It is because more and more people usually go there that the place appears to be crowded during the summer season.

Chocolate Hills – Bohol

A Exciting Grab of Homegrown Experience at the Slopes of Chocolate Hills in Bohol

Holidaymakers and vacationers love the Chocolate Hills due to the geological formation. The Local Government Unit and the Department of Tourism work together to make Chocolate Hills one of the best destinations aside from beach resorts. This area in the Bohol province of the Philippines has, at least 1,260 hills. There may be more than the number of hills in the province that allow us to enjoy hiking and walking. Well, some may ask why chocolate hills are not brown. Of course, the lavish green grass that covers the hills will turn brown during the summer season. Perhaps, this makes Chocolate Hills fifth on the list.
